Eyes On, International Month of Photography (Vienna)
Two worlds collide where places abut non-places. The now, the new, encounters silent witnesses to the past—abandoned scenes, discarded and disused objects, junk. Traces surface of the former residents of these places and users of these objects, whose histories meld into the scenes where they occurred and so gradually lose their original meaning.
Decomposition and natural decay serve as metaphors for a digital editing technique developed specifically for this project. Hundreds of particles glide over the motif and retrace its contours and colors layer by layer. Six different types of brush are used in an interactive drawing process in order to creative an abstract narrative of the transmutation of a place.
