Ask.
How is the process structured dramatically? What are the choices? Does it run as a loop or is there a plot, a composition or a particular arrangement which structures the generative process over time?
Know.
A nodal plot structure has a fixed course of actions with do-or-die decision points that must be solved properly to proceed. A modulated plot has several courses of actions. Different decisions result in different sequences, but through repetition all possible nodes can be detected. In open plot structures interaction and improvisation is emphasized and the user can explore and experiment at will. The Freytag graph is a simple but effective means to represent the dramaturgical structure of an interaction sequence. If the flow and cause of an interaction is properly identified, it can be deliberately designed and changed.
How.
Picture possible plots as node point structures and visualize the dramaturgical sequence of actions with a Freytag graph. Think of different options!
